The Taste of Chicago

He arrived in Harvard and were immediately booted out of the house so my mom could play with Mia. Leigh and I spent the day in Chicago! It was Leigh's first time to the city, and we had a fantastic time. It was fun to have kind of a grown-up day.

The exciting part: it was Taste of Chicago. More than 40 restaurants from throughout the city sell their favorite dishes. We decided to sample as much as we could, so we bought the "Taste" size items. They're $1 to $2 and supposedly the smaller food. Um, no. It was huge. All of it. Some of the sizes, for example, were a slice of pizza or half a cheeseburger.
We had a chicken taco, chicken wings, pizza, fudge, pork sandwich, Indian chicken kabob, cheesecake and ravioli. So, you know, we had to take a break. We checked out the Buckingham Fountain, played in the games section set up by the city parks department and laid down in the grass. We also took advantage of the photo ops set up by local pro teams.

Then we counted our food tickets. We were only halfway through! We ate so much food and we were only halfway through. We had to keep going, so for the second round we had Italian ice, watermelon, hot dog, pizza again, cheeseburger and bratwurst. That's 14 things in all!

It was crazy, people.

After eating our weight in food, we kicked around town.

We stumbled upon a model of Chicago, which was pretty awesome. We then decided we better pretend to be Godzilla and attack it. I think we can all agree that I'm a much scarier Godzilla. Leigh laughs too much.

Then we headed to Navy Pier, which was pretty nostalgic for me. We went there with my Grandpa Russ several years ago, so it made me miss him a lot. We still had lots of fun enjoying Lake Michigan and the view of the skyline.

We took a boat ride through town to get back closer to the train station. It was fantastic!

Even though we ate about 7,000 pounds of food at Taste of Chicago, we still had some eating to do. We had to get a deep dish Chicago pizza. And then we hopped over to the hospital to get stints put in our hearts.

  1. OH My gosh. I miss Chicago. Sounds/Looks like a fabulous time. My only complaint - No pictures of Taste food! Boo! :) I've been reading in the CST that everyone thinks the Taste is sooo dangerous and they're not making as much money. Some folks are saying the Taste should shut down.
