Too much fun

This is what happens when you go to the Festival of the Arts and your grandma is there and that grandma buys you a balloon. It's too much.

Setting a world record

Setting a Guinness World Record? Just a regular Saturday morning for Mia Jacobs. My column about our cloth diaper adventure ran today. Click here to read it.

Here we are before the big change:

Here's a picture of all the parents!

Here's Mia, ready to be changed for no apparent reason:

And a post-change picture:

Here's Mia, more impressed with the water bottle that came in the goodie bag than actually helping to set a world record:

Just in case

We finally made the big decision. Kelli and Tre Dupuy will be Mia's guardians in case something happens to us. We asked them and - thankfully! - they said yes! And Kelli took a picture. Of course.

This decision is something we've been wrestling with since before Mia was born. There are so many factors to consider, and we are so lucky because we have a wealth of wonderful people in our lives. That's why we've been so wishy-washy and haven't made a firm decision. So why make the decision now? Well, it was the subject of an episode of Modern Family. Then, the next night, a friend of mine who is an attorney asked if Leigh and I had made a will. We don't have a will because we couldn't decide who would take care of Mia.

It was decision time. We feel so relieved that this has been decided, and we are so happy that the Dupuys have said yes.

Back off!

Leigh Jacobs cracks me up. Apparently Bud Light now has little labels on their bottles. Leigh this this is an amazing idea. He used the opportunity to label the lone beer in our fridge: "LEIGH'S BEER - BACK OFF." It was an important message to tell everyone else in the house, because Mia and I are totally likely to snatch his beer. Maybe it was a warning to the dogs.

Bath time at Tiamo's

Mia loves taking a bath in Tiamo Jill's sink. She loves it even more now that she's discovered she can turn on the faucet. Jill had to move it out of Mia's side so her water doesn't go cold.

Egg stealing

This afternoon we went out to the Kirkpatrick Family Farm in Yukon for their annual Easter egg hunt. It was ridiculously adorable. They segregated the children by age, so Mia was with a bunch of other munchkins. Mia picked up a ton of eggs and we stayed for lunch at the park.

The other baby

Normally I write about my own baby on this blog, but today I'm going to mention another baby. An elephant was born at the Oklahoma City Zoo on Saturday, and for me, it was the end of a three-year project covering the elephants.

You can also watch her live here. There are lots of stories and other things about the elephants that I've done.

Fun in Fayetteville

I wanted to share some more photos from our short trip to Fayetteville.

Mia discovered this basket on wheels that Uncle Kelly has, and she thought it was pretty much the greatest thing ever invented. Then she insisted that Aunt Connie push her around the house.

Mia thanked her for her services by eating a cell phone.

Mia took her first stab at riding a tricycle before we had dinner together for my grandpa's (early) birthday. My grandparents found this trike for her and it's adorable! Now all that's left to be done is for Mia to grow some legs.

After dinner, Mia decided to help me edit my story about the elephant that was born at the Oklahoma City Zoo. She's a stickler for grammar.

A little visit to Little

OK, so after the Touch a Truck event yesterday, everything just went to hell. Long story short, I missed Emily's baby shower. It was so awful. So this morning before we headed out of town, we stopped by Little's house to give her some presents for little Aubrey. I can't wait for Aubrey to get here! Leigh's still holding out hope that she'll be born early and on his birthday. Emily looks so adorable pregnant. She's all baby. I can't wait for her and Aaron to be parents! They'll be so great.

Hammer time

Because my family is awesome, we all went out to the Touch a Truck event in Rogers this morning. Mia was escorted by my Aunt Connie, Uncle Kelly, Grandma Sue and me. (Leigh was down for the count with a horrible migraine. He spent the morning sleeping in the car. Bad news.) Mia got to do lots of fun things at Touch a Truck.

She got to use a carpet steamer and pretend to clean a rug. You know she loved that.

She drove a mail truck, which was extremely dangerous. Babies shouldn't drive! But I guess it was OK because sitting on that side took her back to her South African roots.

We hopped on a boat to prepare for our visit to Nancy and Grandpa Doug next week.

Then we took a ride on a motorcycle and discussed avoiding biker tattoos.

Mia got her first cotton candy!

She was very suspicious, so she made me try it to make sure it wasn't poisoned. This makes me think she's either cautious or trying to poison me.

Mia took her first turn inside a bouncy house. She held on to the side while the bigger kids bounced. She kind of bobbed up and down. Her face was totally serious the entire time, but when I took her out, she made a U-turn and headed back for another round.

We moved on to the Home Depot kids building station, which seems like a wholly terrible idea. You basically sign a release form and then get to use hammers and glue. Super. But, of course, I was too excited about Mia getting a little builder's apron, which she would not wear in the first place. So I showed Mia how to use a hammer, as if she'll need to know that in the immediate future.

The last stop was a ride on the school bus. Mia was so excited, she decided to suck on the window sill of the bus. I had to forcibly remove her.

I know this is blurry, but it cracked me up. She looks like Evita.

So Mia got to drive a mail truck, use a hammer, clean a rug and eat a school bus. It was a successful day.

Snapping turtle

What is this? An "incident report" from daycare. What was the incident, you ask? Biting. The culprit? Mia. Oh, dear.

Emo urban hipster baby

So Leigh and I were hanging out in the Paseo when we decided to take some emo hipsters pictures of Mia. Hilarious. I give you the captions of what Mia is thinking.

Hey guy! I'm still living at home, so can I borrow a dollar?

I just realized my shoes aren't made of entirely organic materials! Damn it!

The world is a cold, cold place. I'm already jaded.

Omigod - I almost forgot that "Nick and Nora's Infinite Playlist" comes out on BluRay today! I've got to go get it!

Hey friend! I'm just waiting for Whole Foods to open.

Look at all that litter. I'll complain about it, but I don't want to pick it up myself.

I'm praying to God that I left my iPod charging at home.

My dad and me: breaking racial stereotypes.

Don't bother me. I'm busy climbing the building blocks of angst.
