The tiniest culprit

I visited Mia during my lunch break and heard about some more of her shenanigans. Apparently her teacher, Miss Persephone, was feeding another baby in the rocking chair when Mia hatched her plan. She was having tummy time on the floor right near Miss Persephone when she wiggled her way around and untied her shoelaces. Both shoes!

Leigh said now he only has to train her how to tie those shoelaces together. Great.

Six months

Mia is six months old today! She's still wee, but look at how tiny she used to be. Here's a video of her getting cleaned up at the hospital.

She was born with so much hair! Holy moly! She's still be inside my body longer than she's been outside of my body, but let's not think about that. It's weird.

The littlest Cheesehead

I discovered while shopping for a green shirt for Mia (to wear to the MSU watch parties) that there are no green shirts for girls. None! I'm not sure what this pink revolution is about, but I don't like it. So I moved to the boys' section to for regular colors, and what did I find? This! So, in honor of my Uncle Russ and Aunt Debbie, the entire Del Colle clan and our pal Tanya ... this one's for you!

The first swing of spring

Sunday Mia got to ride in a swing for the first time. She loved it! Leigh and I both had softball practice, so we took Mia along. Leigh's team played in a beautiful park - Crown Heights Park - that had two ball fields and a nice, new playground. I sort of bundled her into the baby swing with her blanket so she wouldn't fall over. I sat in front of her and pushed her back and forth. She sat up and laughed and smiled the entire time.

Simko comes to town

Our pal, Ryan Simko, visited Oklahoma City! Hooray! In case you don't know Simko, he happens to be extremely awesome. He lived here a couple years ago and even though he moved away, we still are good friends. He came to our wedding! Here are two pictures. The first of Tanya, Simko, Jesse, The Captain and Clay. The second is of Simko and Leigh doing what they do best: drinking beer and getting in trouble.

He came to visit this weekend to see his girlfriend and all his Oklahoma City pals. We met up with him at Cuppies and Joe, though we had to leave a little earlier than planned because of an, um, "incident" involving diaper failure. It meant so much to us that wanted to meet Mia. He is a great friend! We met up with him later at Club Rodeo. (We got there as Simko and his pals were leaving, so we just said bye in the parking lot.)

So it begins

This past weekend my mom and I went to the Just Between Friends sale and picked up several things for Mia, including toys and clothes. My mom also got Mia this little shape sorter, which we thought might be a little advanced for her. She didn't care. She turned herself completely
around in her little chair so she could reach the box, take the top off and dump out all the shapes. This marks the beginning of the end of our toy-friend home.

Power legs

Apparently Mia has strong legs. I stopped by her daycare the other day, and one of her teachers said she's been pushing her crib around the room. How? She sticks her little feet between the railings and pushes against the wall. She'll push herself out and out and out until she can't reach the wall any more.

I believe it's because of her serious athletic training at home.

The spring of things

So I had this great idea: take a cute spring picture of Mia and send out happy spring cards. I shared this plan with Leigh and told him I would be in charge of snapping the shot while he could be in charge of posing Mia. This is the adult equivalent of shouting "Not it!" before a game of tag.
I put Mia in an uber cute outfit, courtesy the Pemberton family, and a ridiculously adorable headband that made her look like a flower. Or the Statue of Liberty. Whatever.

We took her out to the front yard where we have a random patch of extremely tall grass. It's like 8 inches tall and in the rest of the front yard we have no grass at all. I'm hoping to style it like a comb-over later in the summer so that people think we actually have grass. I don't have the heart to mow it yet. So Leigh put Mia down in this little patch of grass. And this is what she thought of it:

Then Leigh realized that Mia has never felt grass before because it's been too cold to really play outside much until now. So we spent lots of time letter her get used to the grass. She really just wanted to cling to us for a while until she got comfortable.

Well then she got really comfortable and tried to eat the grass. We weren't so sure that was a good idea, so we then spent the next 20 minutes or so trying to keep her from eating the lawn.

When she was comfortable with the mini-jungle, it was time to take the photo. Mia can sit up for a few seconds on her own, so Leigh's job was to prop her up, count down and then release her. I'd snap the picture just in time for him to put his hands back around to keep her from falling. Our timing was off at first.
Then, because I wasn't the one trying to keep our kid from disappearing into our front yard, I suggested that we incorporate a cute little bunny Mia has. Leigh was super excited about this idea because his half of this task wasn't hard enough. Adding the bunny to the mix was more complicated than I thought. Mia was using her hands to pull the bunny to her mouth instead of hold herself up. We ended up with lots of pictures like this.

But we took lots of pictures and ended up with some nice ones. These are the runners-up.

This one is my favorite. To me it is just the sweetest picture of her. You can see her little smile and her bright eyes, and she is just loving that bunny! Our daughter is such a good sport.

So, long story short, happy Easter from the Jacobs family!

Go Spartans!

Because her favorite team, the Razorbacks, wasn't even invited to the NCAA tournament, Mia has been cheering for her second favorite team: the Michigan State Spartans. And in honor of this phenomenal win ...

Mia decided to wear her favorite jacket:

First snow of spring

After spending Friday enjoying the 70-degree weather, we celebrated the first day of spring with a blizzard. Oklahoma, you are ridiculous. Nevertheless, Mia had the chance to wear her snowflake shirt before she grew out of it.

Inspired by Barbados

When my stepdad remodeled our bathroom a year and a half ago, I had a particular look in mind: the colors of Barbados.

Leigh and I went there on our honeymoon (there he is in the first photo!), and it was beautiful. I loved all the pastels and island colors of the buildings there. Most of all I loved all the shades of blue of the sky and the water. So the dark wood floor, light blue walls and white fixtures were supposed to give it kind of an island-y feel. Our bathroom was the best room in the house, hands down.

Oh, how life has changed since then.

Moccasinful

I got a pair of moccasins for Christmas from my awesome Uncle Jeff. And let me just say that I didn't understand moccasins until shortly after Jesus' birthday, Aught Nine. I thought they were ugly, and this particular pair went against my lifelong vow never to own a pair of Uggs. (For the record, they're not Ugg boots, so I technically haven't broken my vow.) Then I put them on, in all of their sheep-woolly-awesomeness. The only thing that makes me sad about these shoes is that winter can't last long enough. This leaves me with two very serious questions.

1. How can moccasins be so awesome?

2. Why didn't anyone tell me before now?

A spoonful of awesome

Mia used a spoon for the first time! It was hilarious. She pretty much took the spoon out of my hand and told me to quite messing around. She ordered rice weeks ago and for some reason the service at the Jacobs house is just horrible. She wasn't going to leave a good tip. Except for spit-up rice.
Because of the Vilakazi garage sale, our garage is packed full of donations, which is a good thing. Until you need the highchair out of the garage. But then I had a stroke of genius and remembered where it was.
So the big moment came. I mixed up some water and powdered rice and got out Mia's very special silver spoon, engraved with her name and birthday, from the Lees.
I sat down and offered her the mush and she went right for it. Then she took the spoon out of my hand and put the rest of it in her mouth. Well then. She was obviously much more prepared for this moment than we were.

Leigh fed her, too, and was the first one to realize she might need a bib. He was also the one to point out that she probably would need a bath, too. She was really cooperative and seemed to like the rice. Next week we move on to veggies!

We hate you, flu

So Leigh, Mia and I are passing around the flu. Fabulous. Mia's been taking baby medicine. The doctor prescribed some cough syrup and nasal spray, and I've been supplementing with Tylenol. This doesn't seem to be doing much good. Using the nasal spray is like holding a water hose up to the Hoover Dam. There's no breaking through that wall. To explain the kind of congestion that's happening here, imagine eating a bowl of cereal. But you can't finish it because you have to stop to breathe out of your mouth mid-chew! It's like you're pausing on the stairs between floors at your office because you're so out of shape you can't go up one flight. Or you have to suck in a whole bunch of air and then chew really, really fast so you can exhale after you swallow. It's like a diving expedition. Who gets winded eating a bowl of cereal?!? I'm going to go ahead and consider this exercise.

James Harden for the win

OK, so maybe James Harden didn't score the winning shot tonight when Leigh and I went to see the Thunder take down to the Utah Jazz. He was injured. However, I still was super excited to see him! He was wearing this different kind of jacket. (That's him in the grey in the middle.) If anybody else would have worn it, they might have looked like a Civil War reenactor, a Chinese restaurant waiter or a bellhop. But because it was James Harden, he looked great!

The amazing Vicki Guerra scored tickets for my Newsroom 101 kiddos, and the leftovers went to volunteers. Thank you, Vicki! James Harden is, hands down, my favorite Thunder player. Why? Click here. Watch the first video. It's fabulous. I love them! What other NBA stars are going to be trying to become video stars in their hotel mirrors? They're great. So Leigh got me a Broingtons shirt for Christmas. Of course I had to wear it out to the game.

Sock and awe

This morning Mia helped me fold laundry. Both of us were in completely shock when I reached the end of the basket. After all the clothes were folded, an even number of Leigh's socks came out of the dryer, and they all matched up in pairs. As you can see, Mia was stunned.
Then we found an extra sock stuck to a jacket, so all was right with the universe again.

OMG

I loved this bumper sticker. It made me laugh.
In case it's too small to read, it says OMG GOP WTF?

The duck tub

Last night we finally did it. We inflated the duck tub, which might be the most hilarious baby invention ever. I blew it up while Leigh held Mia on the couch. As soon as she saw the head start to inflate, she wanted to eat the tub because she likes to eat stuff that isn't food. So we let her hang out in it before it was bath time. She loved it!
Then, Mia had to wait around for her duck tub to fill up, so Leigh let her dress up with a fancy tie, which she thought was pretty great.

Finally it was time for the duck tub! She absolutely loved it and we laughed the whole time. Here are some videos of her playing in the bath.
