A snow day

Because all is right with the world, we had a snow day today. Last year, if school was closed, I was home alone in the quiet. I napped. Cleaned up. Got things done. It was amazing. Now, Mia is home, too. So is Wren. And by a stroke of good luck, Leigh was here, too. It has a been a loud, loud day. But Leigh took Mia outside to play. Wren and I stayed inside and watched.

If I was in charge of playing outside, it would have been short-lived because the ground was really covered mostly ice with a little snow on top. But Leigh was running the show, so the four-wheeler and sled were involved. And then Leigh had a brilliant idea.

He took Skye outside on a leash. Mia sat on the blue plastic sled and held on to one end, shouting "Hee-yah!" as Skye dragged her around the yard. I would have taken a picture, but I was too busy trying not to wet my pants from laughing.

Ahhhhhhhsemayaaaabodeebesibabaaaaaa

I go to make toast; I come back to Leigh and Mia reenacting the opening of "The Lion King." It was much easier when she was a baby.

She is fancy

This evening, as  I was folding clothes, Mia pulled her little pink blazer out of the laundry basket. She said something about and called it a jacket. I told her it was a blazer, which was kind of like a jacket that you wear for special occasions. She asked what kind of special occasions I meant. It's for when you want to be fancy, she said. She pulled on the blazer and buttoned it up. I asked her why she was putting it on.

"Because I FANCY. I so, so, fancy."

True.

Are you there, Dog? It's me, Mia.

Sometimes you have to make phone calls to your dog, and the only way to do that is with plastic yellow cups.

Well, fine then

So we were driving down the road and Mia made an announcement from the back seat.

"I don't WANNA otter!"

Well, fine then. You don't get one.

Mia the conductor

I love to find out what Leigh and Mia have been up to if I have to work late or on the weekends. This is what they came up with tonight:

When things go wrong

Sometimes, things don't really work out. I get out the camera and think, "Aww, look at Mia being adorable! Let me take a video!" Then it all goes to hell.

My 15 minutes

This year, I've given up swearing for Lent. Even though I'm not Catholic and the church we go to doesn't really give up things for Lent, I'm still doing it. Mostly, I'm trying to brush up my mouth so Mia doesn't repeat me and get kicked out of daycare.

The reporter who sits across from me at work has been very helpful. And then she did this: http://www.overheardinthenewsroom.com/2012/03/06/9114/.

That's me! I'm famous! Sort of. She sent in my quote to the hilarious website Overheard in the Newsroom. This is why I went to college for journalism.

The wardrobe

Because our house was built in 1949 and is the size of a mailbox, there is absolutely no storage for clothing. We've been looking for something to substitute as a closet for Mia. We dropped by a resale shop down the block from our house and - BAM! We found this adorable wardrobe from the 1950s. We took the draws out when we moved it into the house from the car, and before we could even put the drawers in, Mia was entertaining herself.

Mia the Wookie?

Remain calm everybody. The car wasn't movie and Mia wasn't buckled up yet. I just tried to get a video of her hilarious growl, but we are not driving. ha

Hair styling secrets

"Oh no! Busted!"

"But you're too late, mama! HA! I'm soaking wet. Change my clothes."

Running errands

Lord knows if there's anything my mother loves to do, it's make a list and cross things off of it. She came to visit and, as usual, we got a billion things done. Turns out, the apple does not fall far from the tree. Mia also enjoyed running errands.

Eat it - don't wear it

Sometimes you don't feel like eating ham for a bedtime snack. So you wear it.

Then you call Lady Gaga and give her your costume idea.

Our own Easter bunny

We have an Easter Bunny in our house.

I got under the sink to pull out a pan and this made me laugh. Mia is going through a rearranging phase, where she finds new homes for things. It started a few months ago when I found a giant building block in a high heel. Other highlights include a toothbrush in the toilet and Leigh's cell phone in the microwave. I just love imagining her little mind working, thinking, "Where should I put this Easter egg? Wheeerrreee is a good spot? Ah-ha! Pots and pans."
