Washing her hair

I spotted Mia being all adorable, playing in the bathroom sink. This is how she tricks me.

"Oh, Mia, what are you doing, you cute sweetie pie?"

"Ohhhhhh. You're washing your hair with hand soap. Great. At least you're cute about it."

Run mama

I ran my second half marathon, and I'm just proud I survived. Really. It was rainy but not in a miserable way; it felt kind of cool and nice. But, you know, it's still 13.1 miles, which is super far for someone of my height and stature. Leigh and Mia greeted me along the way, and that was so motivating.

2012 Festival of the Arts

We love the Festival of the Arts!

Mia was old enough to shop in the Young At Art Mart this year. It's a tent for kids 12 and younger, and everything is $5 or less. It's only children and adult volunteers - no parents. Mia picked out something right away: a lovely flower print. All of the prints are provided by artists who are exhibiting at the festival.

We bought Mia a balloon, which immediatley lost air because the little clip thing broke. Leigh spent the rest of the evening blowing up the balloon and letting the air out on Mia. Hilarious.

My door

We've been preparing for the Vilakazi garage sale, and any digging expedition in oru garage usually means we'll come across this: my bedroom door from growing up. The entire thing is a collage, whcih turned out to be pretty handy when we had to make a collage for a project in senior English. Our friend Marc hadn't seen it before, and he loved it. He snapped a picture and sent it to me. It's so funny to go back and see what I put on there. Oddly enough, there are several things about Africa. There are pictures of friends, old saxophone reeds and political cartoons. Interesting.

Another long lost video: Mia draws the family

OK, I think I might have forgotten to post this video as well. What the heck am I doing? Anyway, the other day Mia was quietly coloring away and I decided to take a video. I asked her what she was drawing and she explained it was mommy, daddy, Skye and Deter. So sweet. And then she scribbled some more stuff. But let's focus on her being adorable and drawing the family.

Long lost video: Swinging at the zoo

I meant to upload this earlier with some pictures from the zoo, but I guess I forgot to. Nothing crazy. Just swinging and smiling.

Celebrate with jumping

One of our favorite restaurants/bars celebrated its 1st anniversary, so we decided to go to the party. At first, we were a little leery about taking a 2-year-old to such a party, but there was a bouncy house. Mia loved it. Loved. It. She observed the kids already in there for a while, and then it was on. There was basically a two-group rotation between smaller kids (Mia) and bigger kids. She went in every single time the little kids went. Every. Single. Time. It was hard to get her to leave. We're going to need one of these at home.

Mia does not like your mac and cheese

OK, so sometimes you have to compromise. You try to sneak in a quick trip to Target before nap time, which also happens to be lunch time, and you say to yourself, "I'll sneak one snack bar lunch past my kid." Um, no.

The Easter egg hunt

We took Mia on an Easter egg hunt out at the revamped Myriad Botanical Gardens. It was so fantastic!

At first, it was a little windy and chilly. Mia did not approve.

Leigh enjoyed the weather.

But what's this over here?

A fountain!

Hunting for Easter eggs takes serious strategy.

One of the eggs Mia picked up had a prize ticket in it and she won some bubbles. Could it get any better?

And carrot cake cupcakes? Seriously? Everything was free.

Quick pause for a high-five from the Easter Bunny.

They had games for kiddos, and Mia was a little timid at first. After some gentle coaching, she knocked the egg down the aisle in one smack! Everyone around us clapped! haha

More games.

Short break with Frama.

And another quick high-five from the Easter Bunny before we headed out.
